Washington, D.C.

This past Friday-Tuesday were the first few days of our cross-country adventure!  First stop = Quakertown, PA, where we enjoyed wonderful time with lots of family and friends.  PA feels more and more like home each time we visit . . . perhaps something we should pay attention to!  Special shoutout to my brother Keith who cooked up a yummy dinner and let 17 family members invade his house and flop around on his new couch.  We will, for sure, seek out his services again.  Five stars!  We even saw some of our VT lake neighbors in their PA habitat!  :)

Yesterday, we headed south.  After locating the house in which Rali and her family lived for a few of her elementary school years, we stopped at the Valley Forge National Park.  Rali remembers going there at the age of 8 or 9!  It was blustery cold as the wind whipped over the hill, and this deepened our reflection and appreciation of what it must have been like for the thousands of soldiers who lived and trained there in the winter of 1777-1778.

We are now in Reston, VA, now staying with a dear friend of mine from high school and his family.  Todd and Juliana are fabulous hosts - we're not sure we will actually leave on Friday as planned . . .   Today, Todd even hung out with us in D.C. - BONUS!  We spent a few hours at the National Museum of African American History and Culture (impressive), enjoyed a delicious lunch at Old Ebbitt Grill, walked around the White House, and drove by the Jefferson and Lincoln Memorials on our way back home. Tonight we get to see his son Henry's choral concert.  Tomorrow we'll head into the city for more touristy exploration before having dinner with our niece Caitie and her husband Dan. In the midst of all this, we are trying to see my cousin Tim and his family, too.
LIFE IS GOOD, and we are grateful.
